What Do I Receive From Your Scanning Process?

We scan your original material and return the originals to you with DVD's of the scanned images. The DVD's contain three versions of your collection:

'MasterFiles' - your images in uncompressed .tif format for printing. Color correction, dust and scratch removal, bringing out detail in shadow, sharpening, focus correction, and descriptive file names are included in our price. Click here for details.

'QuickAccessFiles' - your images in .jpg format for easy viewing on a computer.

'Photo Album Files' - which contain page layouts of your entire project in .pdf format for printing. Click here for more information about reference prints.

Are my Pictures Safe Forever?

Manufacturers of digital media claim that data written to a DVD will last more than 100 years. They may be right, but no one knows for sure and certainly the technology for reading them will change. We want to do everything we can to insure that the information we archive today will be available and usable many, many years from now. To that end, we recommend the following:

- create duplicate DVD's and store them in different locations.
- store your DVD's in a cool, dry place.
- print the contents of the media on paper as a computer is not always handy.
If computer technology changes significantly enough to impact the reading of the CD's, or if improved ways of saving images are invented, it may be necessary to recreate new CD's that reflect the changes, while keeping the older versions along with the newer. This simply means thinking about your archives every five years or so and taking responsibility to protect them if necessary.
